About Us

Loreto High School Limuru is a National girls school in Limuru Sub-County, Kiambu County. It was founded by the Loreto sisters from Ireland in 1936. Sr. Teresa Joseph O’Sulivan, S.M. Dolores Stafford and S.M. Veronica Bradley were the pioneer.The school started with a population of 7 girls and has grown to the current 7 stream with a student population of 1550. The first two students who sat for senior Cambridge certificate examination in 1954 registered excellent performance. These pioneers started a record of excellence in examinations which has maintained to date.

Loreto High School Limuru is also very active in co-curricular activities where students compete and excel upto National level. Some of the events include; Technovation challenge (organized by safaricom), Music festivals and Science and Engineering Fair among others. In sports and games it has excelled in Athletics, Basketball, Swimming and badminton among others. This is a result of teamwork between the administration, teachers and students.

Loreto High School Limuru has also grown in terms of infrastructure. The most recent accomplishment was the completion of four storey dormitory building with capacity of 400 students. This has been made possible by the support from the Government and parents. Our school aspires to develop holistic students by also providing spiritual nourishment. Our sponsor, the Catholic Church through the parish priest has enabled this by providing priests who celebrate every day at 6.30 a.m. To accommodate students from other faiths, Sunday service are conducted as follows; Catholics attend mass in church, Protestants hold service in the school hall while Muslims pray in their allocated room. Loreto sisters offer pastoral programs in the school apart from teaching their subjects of specialization.

The school has for the last 4 years been ranked 1st position in the Arch-diocese of Nairobi both in academics and holistic education.The school has a well-established information communication technology (ICT) infrastructure which supports both curriculum and co-curriculum well-being of the entire school entity.

The fruits of education given by Loreto Limuru are visible throughout the country and indeed globally from the contributions of its Alumnae. The school has produced many doctors, lawyers, engineers, architects, teachers, accountants, wonderful mothers and many other outstanding role models like the late Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai to mention but a few.
